Architecture Week 2007 Launches With Events Across The UK

Architecture Week 2007 was launched on June 15 ushering in a range of architecture-themed activities at venues right across the UK.
Running from June 15-24 2007, events include film premieres, exhibitions, walks, seminars and family workshops, from an eco-house display to sonic sheds and a toilet design competition, all aiming to encourage consideration of the built environment.
Now in its 11th year, the theme for 2007 is How Green is our Space?, focusing on sustainability and the environment, with the aim of inspiring people to look at the places where they live and work and think about how they can be improved for the future.
Venues taking part include the V&A, the British Film Institute, FACT, Ikon Gallery, Modern Art Oxford, Tate Modern, the Houses of Parliament, the Design Museum, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and English Heritage.

Key events include the RIBA Architect in the House scheme, running throughout Architecture Week, where RIBA chartered architects give hour-long consultations in return for a minimum donation to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity.
Groundbreaking architect Frank Gehry will be discussing his most recent work on June 14 after a special screening of the film Sketches of Frank Gehry at the Chelsea Cinema in London, two weeks ahead of its UK release. The film’s acclaimed director Sydney Pollack will be joining Gehry for the question and answer session.
Gehry will also be speaking on June 15 at RIBA’s Jarvis Hall in London and on June 18 at the University of Liverpool again joined by Pollack.
RIBA has also invited six architects and one student team to design and build temporary hides for wildlife (and people) watching in Battersea Park for the duration of Architecture Week, working with the RSPB to develop the brief.

Each team will build their hides in whatever way they like although they must be child friendly, have equal access and respond to their surroundings.
In Norwich, the Ecohouse, an interactive and educational modular house, will be set up at the Forum on Millennium Plain for the week. It aims to raise awareness of some of the key measures you can take to reduce carbon emissions and slow down climate change.
It will explore issues relating to making your home more sustainable and offers practical tips and advice on saving energy and making improvements to help the environment.

Architecture Week is organised by a partnership of Arts Council England, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Architecture Centre Network.
