There are thousands of ponds dotted around the British Isles. In fact one in ten people has one in their back garden! Experts say as many as 1,000 different species of animals, insects and plants live in and around them.

From frogs to fish, ducks to dragonflies, spiders to sticklebacks, life in a pond is never dull. The common frog can be spotted lurking in damp vegetation, or perhaps jumping from lily-pad to lily-pad all over the country.
