BRUNEL 200
05/01/2006

Shows a sepia photo of Brunel in a top hat standing before the huge chains of an iron ship, with a graphic of a blueprint overlaid on the image.

IK Brunel

Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born on April 9, 1806. 200 years later, Bristol is celebrating the anniversary of this event, without which the city would have been a very different place.

The website Brunel200.com details the wide-ranging programme of events that will explore the life and legacy of this inspirational Victorian engineer. It also provides information about the man himself, his projects, his contemporaries and successors, and their impact upon the modern world.

At the same time as the year-long celebration, Brunel-related sites in Bristol are being revamped and improved. The Clifton Suspension Bridge is getting a new visitor centre, the ss Great Britain has undergone a major overhaul and much of the Brunel archive at the University of Bristol has been digitised.
